Reheating Temperature and Inflaton Mass Bounds from Thermalization After Inflation
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the conditions for the decay products of perturbative inflaton decay to thermalize. The importance of considering the full spectrum of inflaton decay products in the thermalization process is emphasized. It is shown that the delay between the end of inflaton decay and thermalization allows the thermal gravitino upper bound on the reheating temperature to be raised from 10 GeV to as much as 10 GeV in realistic inflation models. Requiring that thermalization occurs before nucleosynthesis imposes an upper bound on the inflaton mass as a function of the reheating temperature, mS < ∼ 10(TR/1 GeV) 7/9 GeV. It is also shown that even in realistic inflation models with relatively large reheating temperatures, it is non-trivial to have thermalization before the electroweak phase transition temperature. Therefore the thermal history of the Universe is very sensitive to details of the inflation model. [email protected]

Thermalization After Inflation and Reheating Temperature
We present a detailed examination of thermalization after inflation for perturbative inflaton decay. Different interactions among particles in the plasma of inflaton decay products are considered and it will be shown that 2 → 2 scatterings and particle decay are the important ones. We show that thermalization occurs after decays dominate scatterings, and that depending on the typical mass scale...
متن کاملReheating and Thermalization: Linear vs. Non-linear Relaxation
We consider the case of a scalar field, the inflaton, coupled to both lighter scalars and fermions, and the study the relaxation of the inflaton via particle production in both the linear and non-linear regimes. This has an immediate application to the reheating problem in inflationary universe models. The linear regime analysis offers a rationale for the standard approach to the reheating prob...
متن کاملReheating after inflation.
The theory of reheating of the Universe after inflation is developed. We have found that typically at the first stage of reheating the classical inflaton field φ rapidly decays into φ-particles or into other bosons due to a broad parametric resonance. Then these bosons decay into other particles, which eventually become thermalized. Complete reheating is possible only in those theories where a ...
متن کاملPost-Inflationary Gravitino Production Revisited
We revisit gravitino production following inflation. As a first step, we review the standard calculation of gravitino production in the thermal plasma formed at the end of post-inflationary reheating when the inflaton has completely decayed. Next we consider gravitino production prior to the completion of reheating, assuming that the inflaton decay products thermalize instantaneously while they...
متن کاملD-term Inflation and B-ball Baryogenesis
We consider the B-ball cosmology of the MSSM in the context of D-term inflation models where the reheating temperature is determined by the Affleck-Dine mechanism to be of the order of 1 GeV. We show that such a low reheating temperature can arise quite naturally as the result of a symmetry which is required to maintain the flatness of the inflaton potential. In this case the B-balls will decay...
